28th January 2021

For every diploma in education leadership and management, or any other program concentrating upon school and educational leadership, massive focus is placed upon the establishment of a healthy relationship between the teachers and their school principals. This is because when a strong rapport and understanding is shared between the two parties, the resulting coordination and cooperation can boost the quality of learning, build a warm ambience in the institute, and benefit the students in the process. This is particularly important at times when interactive and transformational leadership has gained prominence, unlike the old days when an authoritarian approach was pursued. In this blog, let us take a look at some of the main ways that can be used by teachers to build successful relationships with their respective school principals and leaders.

  • Build trust and dependability: Principals are likely to delegate responsibilities and have faith in teachers who have proven to be trustworthy and dependable. By dependable, one refers to the need to be reliable and deeply aware of their respective responsibilities. Teachers who have consistently proven their effectivity in important situations are more likely to build a solid rapport with their principals. Dependability can be established by managing time properly, delivering quality lessons, being innovative, and always being available as and when needed by the institute.

  • Organised: If you were the principal of a school, would you have faith and choose to trust someone who is restless and disorganised with their respective tasks. No right? Therefore, for teachers to build ties with their principals, they need to organise their materials, lessons, time, and other resources that eventually allows them to deliver effective lessons, and stand out from the other teachers.

  • Takes up leadership roles: Principals choose to appreciate teachers who reflect solid leadership abilities. In order to manifest this, the teachers need to take up leadership roles whenever the opportunity arises. The inclination towards taking up responsibilities, participating in everything, contributing ideas, and getting involved will show that the teacher cares and values the institute.

  • Prioritise student development: The main goal of every teacher is to deliver an effective learning experience that can pave the way for student development in the short and long run. Teachers who can attain this goal are bound to be noticed and preferred by the principal. In simple terms, focussing on the main role can work wonders for every teacher.

A diploma in education leadership and management typically aims to help both teachers and school leaders develop proper professional ties that can benefit them, the students, and the institute as a whole. In order for the aforementioned tips to work, the teachers need to regulate them according to their specific positions and their principal’s expectations.
